#1574 the biggest enemy of an athlete
Who is the biggest enemy of an athlete? Somebody says it is his competitive opponent. Somebody says that’s not true. The biggest enemy of him is himself. However, that’s not the answer of this question. The biggest enemy of an athlete is his suffering caused by injuries.
Faster, higher, stronger. When Mr. Coubertin decided to make this sentence as the motto of Olympics more than one hundred years ago, he would not be able to think that many years latter, many athletes will happy to see healthier become one of the words of the motto. They might be a sports star, who enjoyed the flashlight not long ago, and they might be the Overlord in the field who enjoyed the respect and fear by his opponent. However, when the pain comes, their health situation might not as good as an ordinary being. Yet, because of the cruelty of the competition, many athletes have to keep training and overdraft their health in order to reach a higher level.
Maybe the pain they are suffering are different, but someone lucky win the pain and keep going, while someone has to live the rest of his life in the shadow of pain. So we have to avoid the injuries of the athletes as well as ensure the cure of the athletes. It is still a long way to go.

#1573 injured in competition
y: xintao, what's going on?
x: no big deal. something small happened in my competition.
y: something small? Don't you see you are limping?
x: I just strained the musle of my back and the injury of my knee became a little bit worse. That's all. nothing to worry about.
y: i remember that you sprained your ankle and neck few days ago. Have you recovered from that? Are you still going to participate in the competition in the next few weeks?
x: i have to. what's more, it is not serious injury. it is a piece of cake for sports guys.
y: i have to remind you that you are not 20-year old boy anymore. your achilles tendon and ligament won't as good as before.
x: would you stop being dramatic please? I am a young man and my health situation is great. some little injuries don't mean that my health situation is getting worse.
y: I have never said that, ok? I am just worried about your inconvenience of standing , sitting and lying.
x: I am fine... Ouch !

YY: What a nice day!
XT: Yes, let’s go to fly kites!
YY: Okay, but I know little about it. Why don’t you introduce it to me now?
XT: Kite is a traditional Chinese folk craft, originated from Warring States period. So it has at least two thousand years history.
YY: It really has a long history. What about the style of kite?
XT: Nowadays, there are a lot of types of kites, including soft wings, hard wings, dragon pattern etc. As time flies, many new innovative patterns come into existence. Among them, the small ones are smaller than hand and the big ones have a length of hundreds of meters, whose patterns and colors vary. Especially the huge dragon kite, which flies in the sky and creates a spectacle, makes everybody fond of it.
YY: There are so many different kites. If there is a museum about kites, it will really be a feast for my eyes.
XT: We do have a kite museum. Weifang of Shandong province is the city of kite that are known all over the world. The Kite Museum, owing the building of the biggest scale was named Weifang World Kites Museum. It collects precious kites, from ancient to modern all over the world. History culture, modern culture and international culture are presented clearly in the museum.
YY: I really want to feel the charm of kite’s culture.
XT: You will have the chance. Weifang International Kite Festival, held annually from Apri.20th to 25th, is exactly the occasion to get in touch with the charm of kite’s culture. Every year, a lot of kite experts, kite amateurs and visitors are attracted to Weifang to visit and have a contest.
TT: So, the charm of kite is unique! XT, what do you think are the advantages of flying kites?
XT: People usually fly kites when they go outing in spring on nice days. By flying kites, people can breathe the fresh air and promote the metabolism, which does good to health, and people can stretch their bodies and allay pain of cervical spine, which can also eliminate the eye’s tiredness and promote eyesight.

#1441 Walking on stilts
XT: YY, I've heard that in ancient times people used to tie a pair of long sticks to their legs in order to gather the fruits from the trees. After that this became a type of performance activity - walking on stilts.
YY: That's one of the stories. Actually, people also have another legend about the stilts. It is said that during the Spring-Autumn and Warring States periods lived an outstanding diplomat called Yan Ying. Because he was short, he was mocked whenever he went on a diplomatic mission to the neighbouring states. Later, every time he went abroad on a business, he put on a pair of wooden legs to make his figure taller.
XT: That's realy like Yan Ying to come up with such a trick.
YY: There' s also another legend regarding walking on stilts. Long time ago, there was a town called Liang Jin. The people in and out the town were very friendly and every year for the Spring Festival they wished each other prosperous business and abundant harvest.
XT: What does this have to do with walking on stilts?
YY: Later, a corrupt official came to this town and saw this as an opportunity to get rich. He ordered that during the Spring Festival the town gates be closed and the bridge be lifted. Everyone who wanted in or out of the town had to pay 3 silver coins, but this couldn't stop the smart citizens. They put on stilts and went over the city walls, jumped over the moat and continued to celebrate and enjoy Spring Festival together.
XT: No wonder today walking on stilts is practiced during the Spring Festival.
